Bridging Visas

Bridging Visas – Stay Lawfully in Australia While You Transition

Bridging visas permit the holders to remain in Australia legally pending the time their immigration situation is being determined. Waiting to find out the outcome of a substantive visa application; appealing against the refusal of a visa; or getting ready to leave Australia, a bridging visa is useful in keeping you under lawful status during the “bridge” period.

The Bridging Visas vary in number and each of them is intended in different circumstances:

  • Bridging Visa A (BVA) – Subclass 010: Presented to those who apply to a new visa when one holds an existing (Substantive) visa. It enables them to remain in Australia as they wait to be issued with a new visa.

  • Bridging Visa B (BVB) – Subclass 020: Similar to the BVA yet it contains rights to travel, thus permit the holder to travel outside Australia and come back to the Australia in the course of application processing.

  • Bridging Visa C (BVC) -Subclass 030: Visa offer to applicants who have applied to make a new visa after the expiry of his former visa or while being on BVA you lodge another substantive visa application.

  • Bridging Visa D (BVD) -Subclass 040,041: Bridging visa D applies to those whose visa has expired, and they are preparing to regularise their stay or leave.

  • Bridging Visa E (BVE) 050/051: This visa can be used to enable persons to stay legally in Australia so that they may make plans to leave Australia or sort out immigration concerns.
